Russ Mitchell is based in the San Francisco Bay area and writes about Silicon Valley for Condé Nast Portfolio. Mitchell has covered business, finance, technology, and science for more than 25 years, most recently as the editor in chief of Business 2.0. Previously he was a senior technology writer for U.S. News & World Report, where he focused on the Microsoft antitrust case and the internet boom. Before that he was the managing editor of Wired magazine.

Mitchell started his career at BusinessWeek, for which he covered the Pentagon and went to Saudi Arabia and Kuwait to report on the first Gulf war before transferring to lead the magazine's San Francisco bureau. He has also written for Fortune, the New York Times, the Wall Street Journal, Fast Company, SmartMoney, and other publications.

Mitchell has a B.A. in communications from the University of Illinois and attended the Massachusetts Institute of Technology as a Vannevar Bush Fellow in Science and Technology Journalism.
